Applications of Stamping

Stamping Manufacturing Process

Here we mainly introduce six important processes including blanking, bending, drawing, piercing, shearing, and embossing.

Blanking

Blanking is a fundamental process of cutting the outer contour or shape of a part from a metal sheet. In this process, the size and shape will be determined.

Bending

The process allows manufacturers to fold the workpiece to create an angle or curve according to requirements. During this process, the metal may try to bend back to its original shape because of the material property.

Drawing

Drawing is a process that using a punch and die to create a three-dimensional shape by stretching the flat sheet of metal. In this process, the workpiece can be turned into various hollow parts such as cylindrical, conical parts.

Piercing

In piercing process, manufacturers can use a punch to create holes in a metal sheet to meet connection, installation, decoration, or other functional requirements.

Shearing

Shearing is the process of cutting a sheet metal into desired sizes or shapes by applying a huge shearing force along a straight or shaped line using a die.

Embossing

Embossing allows manufacturers to create a raised or sunken pattern on a sheet metal by using a mold for aesthetics, identification, or anti-counterfeiting.

FAQ

What is stamping?

Stamping is an advanced manufacturing process of making flat sheets of metal into specific forms through some techniques like blanking, bending, and drawing. In this process, a die and press is used to apply force to the metal sheets, creating precise parts.

Stamping is an efficient techniques that can bring high productivity, high product precision, cost-effectiveness, and design flexibility. Also, the strength and durability of the metal can be improved.

Metal like aluminum, steel, copper, brass, titanium are common materials used for stamping. These materials have strength, malleability, corrosion resistance, electroconductivity properties.
